Najee Williams (2021) plays for Marcus Denmon Elite 17U and attends Truman HS in Kansas City. He is a very bouncy wing who stands at 6’4 but plays much bigger. The areas he really excelled at this weekend was crashing the offensive boards and constantly getting downhill and attacking the rim. The wing had several put-back dunks off of missed shots that really showed off his athleticism and his ability to find the ball off the rim.
Najee is also a very good slasher with and without the ball. Whether that be back door cuts, or finding creases to squeeze through with the ball in order to get to the hoop and his athleticism allows him to excel at finishing around the rim.
Najee has size, strength and athleticism to be an elite defender at the next level. This area of his game gets a bit lost because we get enamored with his offensive explosiveness, but if you watch his film, you’ll see how he impacts the game on the defensive end. He is quick and long to defend on the perimeter… he is strong enough to battle down low…and he has the explosiveness to rebound and block shots at a high level.
One of the areas we wanted to see more of from Williams was his shooting ability. He showed some of his jump shot at the mid range, but I wanted to see him extend that this weekend. If he can round out that part of his game and show that he is a capable shooter he can certainly compete at the Low-Mid major level.
