Under the Radar: Justin Guernsey 2021

We came away impressed again with Justin Guernsey — the wing with Illini Magic. Guernsey is a 2021 player who, after going down with an injury very early last weekend, was basically playing in his first tournament of the Summer.

The senior-to-be from Pleasant Plains High School in Illinois is very long as he has grown 4 inches over the last year and is up to 6’6. With that comes the necessity of putting on weight to fill out the frame that he holds now, but nonetheless, he pokes balls loose from behind, blocks shots with his length and is able to play good on-ball defense. Add that to his ability to make shots off the catch out to the 3pt line and his downhill style of play and you have a pretty good prospect. He’s a crafty scorer with his length, bounce, and superb footwork. As he continues to develop, his recruitment will go along with it.

Guernsey will need to add dribble drive moves and more ways to create shots for himself as he progresses over the next year, but already has interest from Low-majors, Division 2 & 3 programs.
