The Grind Session : Mustang Madness

St. Louis Christian(MO) vs. West Oaks(FL)
January 5th
Mustang Madness Grind Session

A matchup between two of the top 5 teams in the Grind Session rankings, this matchup did not disappoint.

The first quarter was a defensive struggle between the two teams. Mayen Maen had a great drive baseline for a dunk and Marjok Okado hit an early three to put SLCA up, but West Oaks fired back with their backcourt of Selton Miguel and AJ Neal getting into the lane and creating. As the game progressed, Selton Miguel started to find the bottom of the net. He hit 2 big threes before the half to give West Oaks a 16-14 lead.

Coming out of halftime both teams started to find their mark offensively. 6’7 point guard, Jordan Nesbitt took control of the game for his team with an 8 point 3rd quarter. The junior for SLCA was working from all three levels and got to the free throw line. In addition, he had 2 assists which were the difference as SCLA took the lead heading into the fourth.

Kansas State commit, Selton Miguel is hard to be stopped for a full four quarters and that proved to be true once again. He came alive in the fourth quarter hitting multiple deep threes, finishing strong and hitting free throws. A few putbacks by sophomore Fray Nguimbi were all that West Oaks needed before late game free throws to seal the win. Selton Miguel was named Grind Session game MVP with 23 points and 4 rebounds. Look for West Oaks to climb into the top 2 of the Grind Session rankings after this victory and their upset of Prolific Prep the night prior.
