Scouting Report – Jalen Weaver – Larry Hughes Elite Camp

Height: 6’4
Class: 2021
Position: Combo Guard
GPA:
AAU Team: Billups Elite
High School: Smoky Hills (CO)
Strengths: Jalen in our opinion is a true combo guard. He does everything well at both the one and two spots… He is tough to stop when he gets going to the basket with his size and jumping abilities. He is most effective in the transition game making plays with or without the basketball. His quick decision making is unmatched as he slashes or pushes the ball up the court. He seems to be thinking a step-ahead of the defense. He’s got a bit of a funky release on his jumper but it goes in… at the Larry Hughes Elite Camp, he was shooting lights out. One quality that we love about Jalen is his defense. He’s an animal out there and is so smart on help side defense — he can rotate and block shots at the rim so smoothly. He is quick and big at the guard spot, so defending the 1-3 positions is something Jalen can do.
Improvement Opportunity: Jalen will play division 1 basketball, but his ability to be a scorer at all three levels could depend on how high he goes. He’s solid at getting to the rim and finishing, he can hit the three, but his mid-range needs a bit of work. Some of that could be with his shooting form not having the quickest release. He has plenty of time to work on it still, and we did see glimpses of it at the Larry Hughes Elite Camp.
Projection: Jalen is a MM+ / High Major basketball player.
