Basketball Scholarship Statistics

It is important for high school athletes to know the statistics for the sport in which they are attempting to get recruited.  Colleges do not have endless amounts of scholarship money to award athletes; therefore, knowing this information will help put into perspective the importance of a detailed recruiting game plan.

Number of schools offering Men’s basketball scholarships

  • NCAA Division I = 351
  • NCAA Division II = 306
  • NCAA Division III = 421 (however D3 schools don’t offer athletic scholarships)
  • NAIA D1= 105
  • NAIA D2= 125
  • Junior College = 430

Number of schools offering Women’s basketball scholarships

  • NCAA Division I = 349

**NCAA I basketball is a headcount sport, so the athletic scholarship limits of 13 for men and 15 for women are absolutes;  NCAA II basketball is an equivalency sport and partial scholarships can  be awarded to meet the limit per school, so an NCAA II school could award 15 players each a 2/3 equivalent scholarship and meet the limit of 10 per team.
