Minneapolis North and Grassroots Sizzle class of 2022 Willie Wilson received an offer from The University of Florida on Thursday. Wilson had a very productive spring and summer for Grassroots Sizzle and followed it up with a strong performance at our Larry Hughes Elite Camp a few weeks ago.
“It feels good to receive an offer like this,” said Wilson. “I’m still putting in work though, so I’m not really satisfied!”
An offer like this is huge, especially from a program like Florida. But, while Wilson’s family is excited about the offer, they know he can’t stop there. “They were happy for me, but they still expect more from me,” added Wilson.
Usually programs like to see recruits in person before formally offering, but that didn’t stop Florida. They watched Wilson via live stream at the Larry Hughes Elite Camp and liked what they saw, which ended up solidifying the offer for Wilson.
They are wasting no time to get in to see their newest recruit, showing how much of a priority he is going to be for them in the 2022 class. They are already planning a trip to the northern state, which is coming soon. “Coach Mike White and Coach Al Pinkins are going to be in on September 10th to see me play.”
The Grassroots program has been very familiar with the Florida coaching staff through the spring and summer. A number of Wilson’s friends and teammates have been garnering the same interest from Florida but that’s nothing of concern to Wilson right now. “We cooling,” said Wilson regarding his teammates having the same interest. Time will tell, but Florida could definitely have a nice haul of Minnesota talent in 2022.
As of right now, Florida isn’t the only school interested in the 2022 guard, and most certainly not the lone SEC school. According to his AAU director Brian Sandifer, Iowa, Iowa State, Illinois, and Vanderbilt are expected to be in at some point in the fall to see Wilson.
As for what’s next? Well, that’s simple. It’s still fairly early in the recruiting process for Wilson. The two sport standout athlete is currently focused on the football season at the moment. But that’s certainly not going to stop him from continuing to work on his game and earn more offers.
“Just putting in more work.”
