NCAA Division I Football FBS recruiting calendar

It is important for potential prospects to know the the NCAA Division 1 Football FBS Recruiting Calendars. Athletes and coaches have certain restrictions when it comes to college football recruiting.

08-01-17 thru 08-31-17 Dead Period
09-01-17 thru 11-25-17 Quiet Period *with the following exceptions (1)
(1) Sept., Oct., & Nov. (1)Evaluation Period **with the following exception (2)
(2) Only one evaluation per athlete for the college coach. The college coach only has 42 evaluation days during this period.
11-26-17 thru 02-03-18 Contact Period *with the following exceptions of 1-3 below
Six in-person off-campus contacts per prospective student-athlete shall be permitted during this time period with not more than one permitted in any one calendar week.
(1) 12-17-17 (1) Quiet Period. All JUCO recruits who intend to enroll midyear.
(2) 12-18-17 thru 01-11-18 (2) Dead Period *with the following exception (3) below
(3) 01-05-18 thru 01-07-18 (3) Quiet Period: for National Service Academies
02-04-18 Quiet Period
02-05-18 thru 02-08-18 Dead Period
02-09-18 thru 04-14-18 Quiet Period
04-15-18 thru 05-31-18 Evaluation Period *with the following exceptions (1) & (2)
(1) College coach can use two evaluations per athlete during this period. One for athletics and the other has to be for academic evaluation. If the college coach does both evaluations on the same day, than the coach is granted another athletics evaluation of the athlete.
(2) 168 evaluation days during this time excluding Memorial Day and Sundays.

Other important information

  • College coaches have 42 evaluation days to recruit you during September, October, and November of your academic senior year.
  • College coaches have 168 evaluation days to recruit you during spring evaluation period.
  • During your senior year a college coach cannot evaluate you more than 3 times, once during the fall and the other two between April 15th and May 31st.
  • Limit of 6 off-campus contacts per athlete and only one per week.
  • Head football coaches can’t recruit you between April 15th and May 31st.
  • During a contact period college coaches can make only one visit per week to your high school.

(2) The evaluation period listed above is for 4 weeks which can be determined by the college coach. Note that when the college coach is not making evaluations the period will be classified as a quiet period.

Other important information

  • Division 2 does not have any rules on the number of evaluations per student athletes.
  • College coaches cannot contact you on competition or practice days until your event is finished, and you are dismissed by the proper authority (like your high school coach or athletic director).
  • During a contact period college coaches can make only one visit per week to your high school.
  • A college coach can evaluate a potential recruit at all-star games throughout the year. There are no limitations for the college coach except that the game has to occur within the state that their university is located.
