Am I the only one that thinks the voting process for the MLB Hall of Fame is ridiculous?  First of all, why in the world didn't Roberto Alomar get inducted?  He is probably the best second baseman in the past 20 years.  The only reason he didn't make it this first time around is because of the spitting incident while he was in Baltimore.  So what.  He spit on an umpire.  He served his suspension and made his apologies.  Coach Bob Knight choked and punched players, threw chairs during games, and belittled refs on a night basis...and he's in the Hall of Fame.  I think it is sportswriters way of punishing Robbie for that incident by not making him a first ballot inductee.  He's a shoe in for next year, but that is where I think baseball needs to change the voting process.  How come players are eligible year after year?  Andre Dawson just got elected after his 9th time around.  In my opinion he is either a Hall of Famer or he's not.  Look at the numbers, decide if he meets your qualifications, and then vote them in or out.  So you are telling me that it took some writers 9 years to finally think Andre Dawson was good enough to make the hall of fame?  I just don't get it.  Anyone have a thought on the voting process?

I agree that it isn't the best format.  You hear it all the time when people talk about George Brett, Nolan Ryan, Cal Ripken, etc...they always say first ballot hall of famers.  Now that Andre Dawson was elected does it make him less of a hall of famers since it took him 9 years to get in?  I don't know how else you would do the voting unless you did one year eligibile and thats it.  The problem with that is the sportswriters are voting and some hold grudges on athletes.  I wouldn't count on Bud Selig making any kind of change though.
