So, I'm sitting here listening to the radio, and I hear: "Texas Tech coach Mike Leach refused to sign a contract extension and might be fired"....who is worse? Mike Leach for refusing to sign a 5 year 12.1 Million dollar contract or Texas Tech for firing a coach who was a win away from the Big 12 championship game (they would have walked through Mizzou..sorry I'm an MU fan but they were way overrated) and an appearance in a National Championship? I am soooo tired of college coaches being overpaid and then jumping at the first opportunity to make another dollar; nick saban, I'm talking to you. See, I lived through the "I will not be the coach of Alabama, I'm not leaving, I'm here"...fast forward 2 weeks to Mobile, Alabama "I am so proud to be the new leader of the Crimson Tide"...Come on, really? So, here is a list of my top 3 college coach DIVA'S that I'm sick of:
1. nick saban--Leaves LSU the year he won a Nat. Championship to cash in a couple years of an NFL paycheck, destroy a franchise, then leave for an even bigger paycheck in a different college because of the mysterious way he left LSU?? Dirty lying liar, nick...that’s what you are, I won't even capitalize your name.
2. Pete Carroll--Never loved Petey, but respected him as a coach b/c he has (recently in his success) been offered NFL coaching positions. Maybe this is because he has already failed as a head coach in the NFL. He recently publicly blasted Matt Sanchez for making the decision to enter the NFL draft. Pete, tell the truth...you were pissy because you had to come home from your Hawaiian vacation to deal with it, right? I mean, you can't expect a kid that will be drafted in the top 5 and sign a 30+ million dollar contract to stick around another year to lose to Florida in the national championship? There is NO guarantee his stock will be this high next year..in fact, his stock will NOT be this high next year (Sam Bradford). Come on Pete...think about the player. And don't even say it’s because he should stay and get his education...he has the rest of his life and millions of dollars to do that. It's about YOU.
3. Lane Kiffin--Feel bad for you that you were involved with the Oakland Raiders "Franchise"; but dude, you haven't even coached a game yet for Tennessee and you are calling out the #1 team in the nation and talking about their recruiting violation? Supposedly Urban Myer was calling one of their recruits while he was on Tennessee campus, which is a no-no. But how was Urban to know? Lane, buddy, save yourself now...I think there is a coordinator position opening on the Lions or something...TAKE IT!
I agree with you totally. Where is the loyalty anymore? A coach can abandon his players and take another job, but if an athlete wants to transfer he has to sit out a year. Why sign contracts anyways? It seems that when a coach has one good year he wants that huge paycheck, and if the school is hesitant than the coach is quick to leave. On the contrast of signing contracts, coaches sign 5 year deals, but get fired 2 years into their contract. It takes at least 4 years to get a program turned around in my opinion. I guess it's not that bad when you get canned though, because the buyouts are like 2-4 million dollars.
I like your write up here Lillis. I think egos sometimes get in the way. Take Pete Carroll for example. That stunt he pulled with Mark Sanchez is absolutely absurd. Who walks out on a press conference? A press conference where their star QB is announcing his intentions to turn pro. What a baby Pete Carroll is!!!!!! I think Petey was more upset that his national championship hopes for 2009 took a hit. I mean with Sanchez turning pro, USC probably went from even money to 2:1 favorites to win the 2009 BCS title. Pete Carroll is a selfish coach. He frickin walked out of the press conference....are you kidding me!
The other coaches you talked about were dead on too. Nick Saban is a joke, and his word means as much as A-Roids. How can you tell reporters and the Dolphins that the Alabama job is nothing that interests you? Then a week later you’re introduced as the new head coach at Alabama.
How about Rich Rodriquez? He left West Virginia high and dry last year. Heck he bounced on them before the bowl game! He left a program that he built into a national powerhouse to go to a team that is in shambles. He has his work cut out for him at Michigan.....remember Appalachian State?
I guess one simple question would be: where is the loyalty?
He didn't think Mark Sanchez was ready for the NFL. Instead he thought Sanchez should come back to USC in order to improve his stock. Hey coach, Sanchez just went #5 overall on Saturday.
Why have one of the top prospects going into the NFL draft come back for another year. I think Pete Carroll just wants to win, and knows his chances were better with Sanchez. Sanchez had nothing to gain coming back for another season and everything to lose.
Mike Leach at it again!! This time taking a shot at (very) unproven NFL coach Eric Mangini after reports surfaced in Cleveland that Michael Crabtree came to visit with a "bad attitude". Leach's quote: "Michael Crabtree has been more successful at receiver than that guy (Mangini) as a coach"...I actually love it. A coach SHOULD stick up for his players (take note Petey Carroll). In all honesty, who wants to play in Cleveland anyway? I'm sure Crabtree got off the plane in Cleveland, took one look and wanted no part of that city or their broken football program. He'll be a star in SF.
I compare Mangini to Lane Kiffen...crybaby and tattle tale.

I agree with you Lillis, a coach should stick up for his players. Crabtree doesn't want to play for the Browns. The Browns can't do anything right. They were talking about trading Brady Quinn to draft Mark Sanchez. Are you freaking kidding me. They have barely given Quinn a chance to play, and now you're going to trade a possible franchise QB (that you traded up to get) for another draft project. Try the product you have first Cleveland before you trade it!!!!
I think Mangini's claim to fame is and will forever be when he appeared in an episode of the Sparano's. He really blew it last year for the Jets, and it seems like he is just an average stubborn coach.
