Blog Entry: The NCAA has certain academic requirements that you must meet at each of the collegiate levels. DIVISION ONE CORE COURSE REQUIRMENTS ARE: Complete 16 Core Courses: They are: Ø 4 years of English Ø 3 years of mathematics *(algebra 1 or higher)* Ø 2 years of natural or physical science *(one year must be a lab science)* Ø 1 extra year of English, Math, or Science Ø 2 years of social science Ø 4 years of extra core courses *(can be from foreign language, philosophy, non-doctrinal religion, or any of the categories above)* In addition to the 16 core courses you must also: Ø Graduate from high school Ø Earn a minimum core course GPA and; Ø Earn a combined ACT or SAT score with your core course GPA. Use the sliding scale to gauge where you stand. DIVISION TWO CORE COURSE REQUIRMENTS ARE: Complete 14 Core Courses: They are: Ø 3 years of English Ø 2 years of mathematics *(algebra 1 or higher)* Ø 2 years of natural or physical science *(one year must be a lab science)* Ø 2 extra year of English, Math, or Science Ø 2 years of social science Ø 3 years of extra core courses *(can be from foreign language, philosophy, nondoctrinal religion, or any of the categories above)* In addition to the 14 core courses you must also: Ø Graduate from high school Ø Earn a minimum core course GPA of 2.00 and; Ø Earn a combined ACT score of 68 or SAT score of 820. **No sliding scale in Division 2 DIVISION THREE REQUIREMENTS ARE: Division 3 schools compete in athletics as a non-revenue making, extracurricular activity; hence, they are not allowed to offer athletic scholarships. D-III schools are considered some of the best academic schools in the country; therefore, they tend to offer generous academic scholarships to athletes. There are an estimated 450 schools that make up the Division 3 level, with schools ranging from 500 to 10,000+ students. IMPORTANT: Division 3 schools do not have academic requirements set by the NCAA. Each institution has policies in place. If you’re interested you must contact that school directly.
